If you have read the newspapers and turn over to the classified ads lately, you probably have noticed a common theme. Yes, you will see that there is a huge market for elderly care jobs. As people become older and sicker, they need more and more care to be able to stay in their own homes, There are many different kinds of jobs pertaining to taking care of the elderly.
One very important job that is necessary for eldercare is the home health care nurse. Elderly patients who are sent home but cannot take care of themselves need health care nurses to take care of their medical needs. The health care nurse comes in several times a week to check the patient’s vitals, checks their general health, and watches to see if any changes in the patient’s condition, Also, the home care nurse can stay in contact with the patient’s doctor if an emergency occurs. These home health care nurses are vital to elderly people who want to live at home.
Another very important job is the live-in home health care provider. This person literally becomes a part of the family. They provide for all of the patient’s needs whatever they are. They make sure the elderly person is clean, dressed, fed, and gets plenty of rest. Most of them take their patient to appointments and any other necessary places like the beauty shop. Often these health providers have to change diapers if the patient is incontinent. They also provide light housekeeping duties.
Some families hire health providers who not live in but work shifts. These workers provide the same care as the live-in workers but only work eight hour shifts. Each shift worker would have different duties.
A vital health care job is the physical therapist. These physical therapists visit patients and help them to regain mobility and strength. Many of the patients have been bed ridden for quite a while so the therapist performs a vital rehabilitation role.
Since elderly day care has become a wonderful trend, these companies need workers. Some workers cook for the patients, some do security, some act as nurses, and other work with the social activities.
If you are interested in working with elderly people, there are many jobs just waiting for you. You will have a great job and do a real service for people. Job satisfaction for these jobs seems to be very high.
