Elderly Skin Care

As we grow older, our skin starts to dry out and we need to take better care of it. Elderly people even have more problems with their skin due to a host of problems due to advance age.

Elderly people complain most about itchy dry skin. They should use a very concentrated skin care product that will give them maximum relief. If this skin treatment doesn’t help, then a visit to the dermatologist is warranted. The doctor can prescribe a skin treatment for the dry skin and the itch. He may even advise the patient to use special soaps to help prevent the dry skin.

Many elderly people suffer from skin cancer because they have been out in the sun their whole lives before people bothered with sun screen. Elderly people should have skin checks every so often. If they are their children see a suspicious spot, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

Another major problem with elderly is very thin skin or skin that bruises very easily. Sometimes, even the smallest touch will bruise these elderly people. Some elderly people’s skin is so delicate that simply taking blood pressure can bruise them with the pressure of the cuff.

A simple blood test can bruise some elderly people as if they had been beaten. The blood test can bruise the entire arm. This bruising is very painful. Many women particularly are embarrassed to wear short sleeves because their arms are always bruised.

This thin skin can also make an elderly person prone to cuts even from the simplest bump. Many elderly people appear abused even though they are not. The problem is that their skin has become paper thin,

Elderly people have many problems with their skin. It is often dry, prone to skin cancer and paper thin. Proper care is essential to good skin health.
